Ronald W. Hopkins

Mr. Hopkins practiced in the areas of construction law, health care law, insurance coverage, products liability and general insurance defense litigation for over six years prior to joining law practice with Mr. Gascou in 1988. His predominant area of expertise has been surety bond litigation, primarily in construction performance bond and payment bond litigation, and in commercial bond litigation. Mr. Hopkins has handled several hundred million dollars of commercial and construction bond claims to conclusion, and has spent more than 250 days in the trial and arbitration of construction-related cases in the past decade. Mr. Hopkins’ litigation experience includes construction defect litigation, commercial bond litigation, property damage litigation and bankruptcy adversary proceedings. Additionally, he has represented sureties and insurers directly in coverage litigation, contribution and indemnity litigation, and extra-contractual litigation involving a wide variety of policies and types of bonds. He has also prepared coverage opinions pertaining to CGL policies, automobile policies, health care policies, excess policies, and coverage under various types of bonds, including performance and payment bonds, mortgage broker bonds and commercial lease bonds. Mr. Hopkins has litigated the longest construction defect arbitration in the history of the AAA, and has been lead deposition counsel for the surety side of the Commercial Money Center Ponzi scheme litigation in federal Multi-District proceedings.

Christian J. Gascou

Mr. Gascou has successfully litigated numerous complex surety and construction matters in California since 2000. His case experience includes defending several hundred million dollars of construction contract claims concerning performance and payment bonds in state and federal courts throughout California, as well as in bankruptcy, arbitration, and mediation proceedings. Mr. Gascou is also experienced defending claims against commercial surety bonds including license bonds, subdivision bonds, and financial guarantee bonds. Recent experience includes negotiating an 80% savings for the surety on a matter with over $400 Million in exposure. That matter was litigated for nearly a decade and consisted of more than thirty related cases consolidated before the Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation and involved cases filed in four states, five Federal District courts, and the U.S. Bankruptcy court. Mr. Gascou belongs to numerous ABA and surety-related professional associations including the Surety Claims Institute and the ABA’s Fidelity & Surety Law Committee. He was selected to attend the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Leadership Academy and is a former Associate Editor of the ABA’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Law Journal (2011-2020). Mr. Gascou has written articles for Best's Review (AM Best's monthly insurance magazine) , and has been an invited speaker at multiple surety conferences; speaking at Pearlman in Seattle, WA and several Surety Claims Association events. He currently serves on the the Los Angeles Surety Claims Association. He is a member of all California state and federal courts, including the 9th Circuit Appellate Court, and is a member of the United States Supreme Court. A former college football player, Mr. Gascou is a varsity assistant football coach at Loyola High School. He also serves as President of the Board of Directors for the National Football Foundation (Los Angeles Chapter). He and his wife Lisa have two sons, Jackson and Hunter, and a daughter, Savannah.
